News reports say that Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a car accident.
Last night he made his season debut for the Angels, and this was just his 4th major-league game.
If my memory serves correctly, the most recent active major leaguer to pass away was Darryl Kile.

I think that Joe Kennedy was the most recent death of an active major leaguer.
Also, I believe that Josh Hancock was the most recent death of an active major leaguer during the season.

Yeah, Josh Hancock was died in 2007 by a car accident as well.

I believe Lidle died shortly after the Yankees had lost to the Tigers, so not in-season.
