Adam Eaton – Shut Out of Shutouts

Posted by Raphy on May 14, 2009

Tomorrow night Adam Eaton is scheduled to make his 200th career start. In his first 199 starts Eaton is 70-66 and has never thrown a shutout. In fact, Eaton could join Jason Bere as the only pitchers since 1954 to start their careers with 200 or more shutout-free starts.

Here are the longest such streaks:

What was Eaton's closest call?  Here are Eaton's starts sorted by IP. There are 2 games that jump out at you. On August 11, 2000 Eaton had a shutout through 8 innings. However Eaton had thrown 117 pitches and only had a 3-0 lead and was replaced by Trevor Hoffman.  Less than a year later Eaton came close again, but was victimized by a 6th inning solo shot by Gary Sheffield.
