EPIC!

Posted by Andy on October 6, 2009

This game is incredible!

I still have to think that the winner is going to get wiped out by the Yankees, but while this one lasts, it's amazing. If it's the last game ever in the Metrodome, it was a great way to go out.

i thought that this game was one of the best I have ever seen for so many reasons. there were big homeruns, go-ahead shots, that made the place go crazy. there were manufactured runs, or attemots at that, with stolen bases, bunts...niether the pitchers nor the hitters were truly dominant in this game, although at some time, the pitchers were unbelievable, and the hitting was incredibly clutch (although i still believe the clutch stats for players are completely random). Both managers handled the game well, and other than the plate being a little wide at times, the umps made all of the right calls.
note: i was on the phone with my grandmother (twins fan) for the last 1.5 hours of the game. it really made the game more interesting to hear a true fans perspective becuase clearly (the name) my team was out of the playoffs, sadly.

"he umps made all of the right calls"

    That never happens.

I think Casilla was safe at home (barely) in the bottom of the 10th. That wasn't an egregiously bad call, but I do think it was wrong.

i saw that play, and it was super close, but i think he was out.
    let me rephrase that statement:
i agreed with all of the umpires major calls. i may be wrong, but seeing replays, they all seemed right.

still, the more i think about it, the more amazing that game was. well stated andy, with "epic!"

One I forgot about before...the called strike 3 from Nathan to Polanco. 9th inning? Not a strike.

two amazing nights in a row in the Metrodome, the 5th oldest AL park - and the oldest artificial turf field in MLB.

Today's game preview is correct, but the series overview on the main page says Tigers instead of Twins.

    OK. Its fixed now. Thanks!

It wasn't me, FYI, as I have no ability to do anything on the site but post on this blog. Sean or Neil must have either seen your comment or discovered the issue by some other means. In the future, your best bet is to send a bug-reporting email or email Sean or Neil directly.

it would be awesome to have B-R Game Preview iphone app. i would gladly pay $4.99 for one. i can view the B-R Game Preview through the iphone's safari, but it isn't easy to navigate or see. i hope someday such an app can be available.

Sean did a whole bunch of research earlier this year on mobile apps. I don't know what he concluded or what he's working on, but something may be coming down the pike. Again, you should email him directly or use the site feedback forum to mention your idea.

I'm a native of Washington, DC, who now lives in the Philadelphia area. I'm a Philadelphia Phillies fan, having moved here in that long time period between the departure of the 2nd Senators and the arrival of the Nationals. (The Orioles were my favorite team my last years in the DC area and my favorite AL team after moving and before Ripken retired. I don't have a favorite AL team right now. In case you're wondering, I was living in the territory of the winning World Series team in 1983.) I'm also a Washington Capitals hockey fan, living through all of their frustrations since day one back in 1974. It is very frustrating to live in Flyers Country. I especially love to see the Capitals beat the Flyers (doesn't happen too often, though), and I especially hate to see the Flyers beat the Capitals.

Not only do I not have a favorite AL team right now, two AL teams in particular that leave a bad taste in my mouth are the Twins and the Rangers, because they are the franchises that were once the Senators, which deserted my hometown after I was already old enough to be a baseball fan.

Last night, I rooted for Detroit, as a result of a feel-good story I saw about them in Sports Illustrated recently.

At almost the exact same moment last night, I experienced double defeat in sudden death overtime, with two exact same scores. Flyers 6, Capitals 5 in OT. Twins 6, Tigers 5 in 11 in Minnesota.

Fortunately, today is better - although another team scored 5 today, that was enough, as the opponent scored only 1.
