Worst Hitting Pitchers Ever

Minimum 500 PA. Worst ever was a one-time Cy Young Award winner - can you guess who before clicking on it? Because of the PA requirement, it's tough for modern guys to even quality unless they spend over a decade in the NL. Jason Schmidt is the worst of guys who pitched in 2007, though.

Interesting nugget on Chance. I saw he only had two career extra-base hits, both doubles. One of them was off Whitey Ford. In fact, Ford was one of just two pitchers off of whom Chance had more than one hit (Mudcat Grant was the other). Besides that rare double, he touched Ford for a go-ahead RBI hit in the bottom of the eighth on August 10, 1963. It broke a scoreless tie, but go figure, Chance blew the game in the ninth. Good stuff.

Dean Chance did not get a hit or a walk in his last 29 PAs. He walked on Aug 11, 1970. He did not get a hit in his last 35 at bats; his last hit came on Jul 29, 1970. Interestingly, on that date (Jul 29, 1970), Chance had two hits, 2 RBIs and a Sac Hit!

It is very interesting to see Al Leiter, Sandy Koufax, Jason Schmidt, Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson on that list.

The coolest thing about Schmidt is that he's like 5th among active pitchers (is Mike Hampton still active?) in homers.

kt, you must not be a Met fan.
My memory is not as accurate as the PI, but, when he was with the Mets, Al Leiter must have struck out on 3 pitches every other time up.

Leiter always looked to me like he wanted to get back to the dugout as quickly as possible.
