In particular notice the 'Rank' and 'GB' columns, which tell you where they ranked in the NL East and how many Games Back they were. They went into first place on Tuesday 4/27 with the first game above. Since then they've gone 8-11, which is by no means a terrible record. That's enough, though, to drop them into dead last place in the NL East. It was actually only a span of 15 games that saw them go from first to worst and they were 4-11 in those games.

The precipitous drop in the standings is understandable, given that (1) when they were in 1st, all the teams were closely bunched together and (2) the Phillies have really surged lately.
This clearly isn't a first-place-caliber team we're talking about; but neither is it a last-place-caliber team. The starting pitching overperformed during the 9-1 streak, and woefully underperformed the last couple of weeks. I think when all is said and done, they'll end up around .500 and miss the playoffs by a few games.

Lest we forget the mets started the season 3-7, in last place and 5 games out. They then went 10-2 (the streak was started by the 20 inning win over the cardinals) to get to 14-9 and 1 game in first place. Now they are 18-20 and six games out.
So far, their season has had more ups and downs than a sine wave

I swear there has never been more written about a BAD team over the last 2 years than the Mets... Don't we all realize that this organization has failed from the Top (Minaya) down and they ain't gonna be any good until that clown is gone?

I would have to think that because expectations are so high and the team has some bonafide superstars on the mount, at the plate and in the field with such a high payroll that makes them such a huge disappointment

The Mets are in last {ho-hum}, but this "First-To-Worst" journey seems to be overshadowing the more impressive accomplishment of Dusty Baker leading the Reds into the recently unfamiliar territory called FIRST PLACE!

I assume you meant "mound" and no they do not have bonafide "superstars" on the mound. They have A bonafide superstar on the mound in Johan and even he is not what he was with the Twins.

Oh Andy it's real, the funniest part about my e-mail address is that I made it after Favre "retired" then unretired THE FIRST TIME! ...and now they're out of last place. It's still early in the season, people. There will be a lot of place changes before the season is over, especially in this division, where there are a lot of mediocre teams, including My Amazin's.
