Clay Buchholz’s hot streak

Clay Buchholz has been quite hot for a while now, going back to last August 19th. Here are his stats from that day through yesterday. For those too lazy to click through:

12-4 record
(15-4 record for the Red Sox in those games)
His peripherals are good although not incredible:
115.1 IP
106 hits
41 walks
91 strikeouts
3.59 ERA
The bottom line, I suppose, is that Buchholz has been pitching at 20-game-winner-quality for the better part of a year now. His stock might be high enough to pry a good hitter away from another team, should the Red Sox decide to make a trade.

Gah! Trade Buchholz for a big bat? He's the only dependable starter on the Sox at a moment. If you look at the team batting and pitching stats, it's pretty apparent where the team's weakness is (hint: it's not the hitting part).

Buchholz is the Red Sox only dependable starter at the moment???????? I suppose Jon Lester's last six starts (5-1, 1.65 ERA) is "undependable" in your view.

From the point of view of a Phillies fan, Wakefield and Matsuzaka look very outstanding. Do you mean to say that Buchholz and possibly Lester are even better?

Correction to Jon Lester's stats: including last night's one hit effort against the Rays, Lester is 5-0 in his last seven starts with a 1.45 ERA (5-1, in my response above, was the Red Sox record in Lester's last six starts). DoubleDiamond, most Sox fans agree that Lester is our true #1. Buchholz is young and despite his no-hitter in 2007 (in his second ML start) he struggled for a while. He was sent down several times but came back up midway through last season and pitched very well in August and September. So far this season he seems to taken it another step forward. As far as Dice-K is concerned, I'll take him one game at a time. I would say that Lester and Buchholz project to be Boston's #1 and #2 for a long time to come.
