Yay yay! Btw, I'm back, but I'm good now.

Why did Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel never start at the same outfield position two opening days in a row? Babe flip-flopped between left and right for nine straight seasons at one point and Meusel for seven, the last four overlapping with Ruth. After that, Babe played the same game with Dusty Cooke for two seasons and Ben Chapman the three after that.

Was this by design or mere coincidence?

  3. Johnny Twisto Says:

Ruth tended to play LF on the road and RF at home.

The Opening Day starting pitcher for the 1943 Phillies was making his major-league debut. (Yes, I know it was a war year.)

  5. Shawn Says:

Ah, thanks. That lines up perfectly.
