Jimmy Rollins and a playoff game with 4 RBI and no runs scored

Posted by Andy on October 18, 2010

Jimmy Rollins didn't something unusual yesterday, getting 4 RBI in a playoff game without ultimately scoring a run. Obviously anybody who hit a homer can't make this list, and indeed it's pretty rare:

  1. Whiz Says:

The most in a regular season game is 7 RBI with no R, held by Joe Girardi (1999) and two in 1948: Ted Williams and Granny Hamner.

  2. Max Says:

Remember when that guy wrote that article about that the 'Phils were DONE!!' way bak in August of this year. Man that was an interesting article, wish we got more predictions like that one. Now everyone likes to play it safe, and not make any bold statements.

  3. Djibouti Says:

Is there significance to the 41 year gap in this list? Was it a matter of not many people getting 4 RBIs period or just a statistical oddity? I'm sure the number of guys with 4 RBI games went up in 1969, and then exploded in 1995, but were the numbers about steady from 1900-1968?

  4. Johnny Twisto Says:

It's probably mostly a statistical oddity, which is not unusual if you are looking at such a small sample. Don't forget that about half of all postseason games ever have been played since 1986 (if I did my math right). About 60% of 4+ RBI games have occurred in that period.

  5. Sam Hicks Says:

Little type there; should be "Jimmy Rollins did".
