Following up on yesterday's post about "Future Wins", today's Keeping Score column uses Bill James' Similarity Scores to estimate how many more wins we can expect from the 2010 Giants and Phillies' starters.

The 1919 Red Sox are third in pitchers' future wins. Of the 967 wins their pitchers went on to record, 533 were for the Yankees (Pennock 162, Hoyt 157, Mays 80, Jones 67, Bush 62, Ruth 5).

Nice work, Kahuna. I've long felt that the impact of the BoSox-to-Yankees pipeline *besides* Ruth has been sorely overlooked. For instance, the other 5 pitchers you listed accounted for 129 of the 152 Yankee starts in 1923, the year they won their first Series.

And Carl Mays
who went 208-126 including 5 20 ganmes win seasons
with back to back 26-11 and 27-9 seasons in 1920 and 21
and arguably the greatest submarine pitcher who ever lived (that includes Eldon Auker and Dan Quisenberry)
appeared on exactly ONE HOF ballot in 1958, close to 30 years after he retired.....got 2.3% of the ballots. why? Because he threw the pitch that killed Ray Chapamn. I don t think Mays meant to do it!
its always amusing to contemplate that the greatest player who ever lived (Ruth) and arguably the greatest pitcher of the modern era and maybe the greatest ever ....(Clemens) played for the Yankees after the Red Sox.....but Clemens had a 2 year stopover in Toronto with two CYAs.
And of course Wade Boggs, who after one sub par season in Boston went to the Yankees....
And of course Luis Tiant............ who Carl Yaztremszki said was the heart and soul of the Red Sox.....
and Tom Yawkey is in the HOF???????????? e wasnt responsible for Ruth...but.....
