3 SP Allowing 5+ ER In A Post-Season Series

Posted by Steve Lombardi on October 19, 2010

I just saw this tweet from Ed Price:

This is the first time in #Yankees history they had 3 starting P allow 5+ ER in the same postseason series

So, what other teams have had 3+ SP allow 5+ ER in the same post-season series?

.
Here's the answer:

1 FLA 2003 4 Ind. Games
2 TOR 1985 3 Ind. Games

Note: It's never happened, yet, in a LDS - meaning having a team with three SP allowing 5+ ER in the same LDS.

Hahahahahaha . . . so much money wasted

Florida had four -- and the Marlins won that series, beating the Cubs (of course).

Boy, and the Yanks still have another shot at the Marlins record today.

I'm assuming the first chart is LCS and the second chart is WS?

Marlins starting pitchers' ERAs for the 1997 World Series and 2003 NLCS: 7.23 and 7.20, respectively. Those teams' cumulative bullpen ERAs for those two series were not all that great — 3.04 and 3.77 — but they won both times.

Relievers pitched 21.2 innings for the Marlins in the first four games of the 2003 NLCS, which included two extra-inning games. If Josh Beckett hadn't pitched a complete game to shut out the Cubs in Game 5, Florida's bullpen probably wouldn't have been nearly as effective as it was in Games 6 and 7 (9.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K).
