Here's another simple list that puts Blyleven in his rightful company:

    I know the Bly love...

Have to point out that Good ol Kittle just OWNED Bly.

Bly just happened to be the pitcher Kittle faced the most in his career...

    The results?

    50 PAs (44 ABs)
    14 hits
    9 Hrs
    16 RBIs
    1.335 OPS

    Good Stuff.

Also like that it was Buehrle that has had the only CG loss w/ 0 ERs in the last 5 years.

  3. whiz Says:

According to the PI, if you rank the CG, no ER pitchers with a loss since 1956 by most pitches, Mike Boddicker comes out on top (1990-08-17, 142 pitches in 9 IP), followed by Chris Bosio (1988-05-11, 138 pitches in 8 IP). Chuck Finley, 14th on the above list, is 3rd.

Bob Hendley had the least number of pitches in such a game, 76 in 8 IP (1965-09-09). Hendley lost 1-0 to Sandy Koufax, who had 113 pitches -- it was Koufax's perfect game. Hendley had only 3 SO and allowed only 1 hit and 1 BB (26 BF), while Koufax had 14 SO, which helps account for the difference in pitch count. Lou Johnson had the only hit in the game, but that didn't lead to the lone score -- Johnson also got the BB, was sacrificed to 2B by Ron Fairly, stole 3B, and scored on an error on the steal play.

Unfortunately, pitch data is available for only 43 of the 198 games where this occurred, so these are not necessarily the actual least and most pitches in a CG loss with no ER.
