The Northern California Athletic Conference was a Division II college athletic association that was founded as the Far Western Conference in 1925. The conference changed its name to Northern California Athletic Conference in 1982-1983 school year. In the Fall of 1998, most member schools of what had been the country's only non-scholarship NCAA Division II league combined with either the California Collegiate Athletic Association or the Pacific West Conference and began granting athletic scholarships.

California State University, Stanislaus competed at the Division III level through 1989, competing in the DIII CWS 5 times and winning in 1976 and 1977 while in the conference.
