Consecutive multi-hit games

Posted by Andy on June 15, 2007

Kevin Youkilis recently had a streak of 9 straight games with at least two hits. If the Red Sox can get their way, that streak should get Yuke onto this year's All Star team.

Using the PI's Batting Streak Finder, here's a list of most consecutive games in the 2000's with at least 2 hits:

Youkilis was very productive over that 9-game stretch, with 11 runs scored, 8 batted in, and a .500 OBP. During the streak, the BoSox won 7 out of 9 games, losing 2 to the Yankees.

But man oh man, take a look at Bernie William's 10-game job in 2002.

With 27 hits in 47 at-bats, he hit .574, with 5 runs scored and 13 RBIs in those 10 games. And the .615 OBP is pretty nice too. Over the 10-game streak, the Yankees went 7-3. Two of those losses were to Oakland, although the Yankees took the final game of that series. The A's lost the opener of their next series against Toronto, and then won 20 straight games. Remember that?

Just as a point of interest, let's look at the longest streaks of consecutive games with at least 2 hits in other decades:

1990s: Chuck Knoblauch, 10 games starting 6/29/1996 for the Twins

1980s: Three players had streaks of 9 games. Tony Fernandez for the Blue Jays in 1986, Bill Hatcher for the Astros in 1987, and the late HOFer Kirby Puckett for the Twins in 1988.

1970s: HOFer Tony Perez, 11 games starting 8/8/1973 for the Big Red Machine

1960s: Two players had streaks of 9 games. Bert Campaneris for the A's in 1969 and Jesus Alou for the Astros in the same year.
